INTRODUCTION: : This study; It was conducted to examine the stress levels and sources of surgical nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic process.
METHODS: This descriptive and cross-sectional study; Turkey's Kocaeli working in the surgical unit at the provincial n = 124 nurses was conducted between 11-26 January 2021 with the participation of date. Personal Information Form and Perceived Stress Scale were used in data collection, data analysis was performed with SPPS 25.0 IBM statistical package program.
RESULTS: It was determined that 52.4% of the surgical nurses included in the study were between the ages of 39-45, 89.5% were female, 39.5% were undergraduate, 65% were married. It was determined that 54% of the participants had been working for 15 years or more, 62.9% were operating room nurses and 79% were providing care to patients with COVID-19. It was determined that the average score obtained from the Perceived Stress Scale-14 was 3.40 ± 0.32. According to the variable of caring for the patient with COVID-19, a significant difference was found in terms of the perception of stress annoyance, which is the sub-dimension of the scale (p <0.05). A significant difference was found between the undergraduate and high school graduates in the mean perception of insufficient self-efficacy (p <0.05). It was found that there was a low level of positive correlation between the perception of insufficient self-efficacy and stress disturbance perception (r = 0.279 and p = 0.002) and a high positive correlation with PSS (r = 0.789 and p = 0.000). It was determined that there was a high positive correlation between the perception of stress and distress and PSS (r = 0.810 and p = 0.000).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: According to the findings, the psychological, physical and mental burden of surgical nurses should be reduced. Guidance, counseling and social support should be provided for this.
